2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use WeatherDuck, we may collect:

  • Account information: your name, username, email address, encrypted password, membership plan, account status and saved preferences.
  • Subscription and payment information: your selected plan, billing contact details, payment status, transaction references, renewal dates, cancellations and refunds. Stripe or PayPal processes your payment details; Weather Duck Ltd does not store your complete card number.
  • Social sign-in information: if you choose Google or Facebook login, we may receive your name, email address, provider account identifier and profile information that you authorise the provider to share.
  • Weather and location information: locations you search for or save, selected coordinates and forecast preferences. If you choose to use your device location, location information is used to provide the requested forecast.
  • Communications: information you include in contact forms, support requests, cancellation notices and other correspondence.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, security logs, cookie choices and information needed to keep the website working securely.

We obtain most information directly from you. We may also receive transaction information from Stripe or PayPal and account information from Google or Facebook when you choose social sign-in.

Required account and payment fields are necessary to create your account or provide a paid subscription. If you do not provide them, we may be unable to provide the requested service.

3. How and why we use your information

We use personal information for the following purposes and lawful bases:

  • To create and manage accounts and subscriptions: necessary to perform our contract with you.
  • To provide forecasts, saved locations and paid features: necessary to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in operating the service.
  • To process payments, renewals, cancellations and refunds: necessary to perform our contract and comply with legal obligations.
  • To provide support and service communications: necessary to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in assisting customers.
  • To secure the website, prevent fraud and diagnose faults: our legitimate interests in protecting WeatherDuck and its users and, where applicable, compliance with legal obligations.
  • To maintain accounting, tax and legal records: compliance with legal obligations and our legitimate interest in establishing or defending legal claims.
  • To send newsletters or promotional messages: only where you have given consent. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To use non-essential cookies: where you have given consent through our cookie banner.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

4. Who we share information with

We share information only where needed to operate WeatherDuck, fulfil our contract or meet legal obligations. Recipients may include:

  • Hostinger, which provides website hosting and related infrastructure.
  • Stripe and PayPal, which process subscription payments, refunds and payment-related fraud checks.
  • Google and Facebook, when you choose their social sign-in services.
  • Google reCAPTCHA, which helps protect forms and accounts from spam and abuse.
  • Weather, mapping and geocoding providers, including Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap, where needed to provide location searches, maps and forecasts.
  • Website and email service suppliers that process information on our behalf where necessary to operate or support the service.
  • Professional advisers, regulators, courts or public authorities where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.

5. International transfers

Some providers may process personal information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we use providers that apply a recognised UK adequacy arrangement or appropriate contractual and organisational safeguards designed to protect the information.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use necessary cookies and similar technologies for login, security, subscriptions, payments and remembering your consent choices. Non-essential technologies are controlled through the consent banner.

We do not currently use a public website analytics or advertising-tracking service. If this changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and our consent settings before using it.

7. How long we keep information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.

  • Account and profile information is normally kept while your account remains active and then only for as long as needed to complete closure or meet legal requirements.
  • Payment, subscription, cancellation, refund and accounting records may be kept for up to six years.
  • Support and contact correspondence is normally kept for up to two years after the matter is resolved.
  • Security and technical logs are normally kept for up to twelve months unless they are needed for an investigation or legal claim.
  • Marketing information is kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, subject to keeping a minimal suppression record where necessary.
  • Aggregated or de-identified weather-location information may be retained for service improvement where it no longer identifies an individual.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. These include access controls, encrypted connections, password hashing, security monitoring and trusted payment processors.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

9. Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • request access to your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask us to erase information;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;

  • withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal. Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions.

WeatherDuck is not specifically directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children without an appropriate legal basis. Please contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information improperly.
