  • Subscription and payment information: your selected plan, billing contact details, payment status, transaction references, renewal dates, cancellations and refunds. Stripe or PayPal processes your payment details; Weather Duck Ltd does not store your complete card number.
  • Social sign-in information: if you choose Google or Facebook login, we may receive your name, email address, provider account identifier and profile information that you authorise the provider to share.
  • Weather and location information: locations you search for or save, selected coordinates and forecast preferences. If you choose to use your device location, location information is used to provide the requested forecast.
  • Communications: information you include in contact forms, support requests, cancellation notices and other correspondence.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, security logs, cookie choices and information needed to keep the website working securely.
  • Analytics and advertising measurement information, only if you consent: Google may receive ordinary network and browser information, approximate location, pseudonymous cookie or advertising-click identifiers, cleaned page information and whether a limited business event occurred. These events cover page views, a location search, a forecast or feature view, creation of an inversion alert, plan selection, checkout start, sign-up and purchase. Purchase measurement may also include a pseudonymous transaction reference, GBP value, currency, plan category and purchase type. We configure page fields and event parameters not to include the place typed or its latitude or longitude, your name or email address, an account or user ID, form contents, or card or bank details. Approved campaign parameters and Google click identifiers may be included for attribution.

We obtain most information directly from you. We may also receive transaction information from Stripe or PayPal and account information from Google or Facebook when you choose social sign-in. Required account and payment fields are necessary to create your account or provide a paid subscription. If you do not provide them, we may be unable to provide the requested service.

3. How and why we use your information

We use personal information for the following purposes and lawful bases:

  • To create and manage accounts and subscriptions: necessary to perform our contract with you.
  • To provide forecasts, saved locations and paid features: necessary to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in operating the service.
  • To process payments, renewals, cancellations and refunds: necessary to perform our contract and comply with legal obligations.
  • To provide support and service communications: necessary to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in assisting customers.
  • To secure the website, prevent fraud and diagnose faults: our legitimate interests in protecting WeatherDuck and its users and, where applicable, compliance with legal obligations.
  • To maintain accounting, tax and legal records: compliance with legal obligations and our legitimate interest in establishing or defending legal claims.
  • To send newsletters or promotional messages: only where you have given consent. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To understand how WeatherDuck is used and measure whether Google Ads lead to actions such as sign-up or purchase: your consent. The related analytics and advertising technologies remain off unless you choose the relevant category through our consent banner.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

4. Who we share information with

We share information only where needed to operate WeatherDuck, fulfil our contract or meet legal obligations. Recipients may include:

  • Hostinger, which provides website hosting and related infrastructure.
  • Stripe and PayPal, which process subscription payments, refunds and payment-related fraud checks.
  • Google, which provides Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads for consented website statistics and advertising conversion measurement.
  • Google and Facebook social sign-in, when you choose their social sign-in services.
  • Google reCAPTCHA, which helps protect forms and accounts from spam and abuse.
  • Weather, mapping and geocoding providers, including Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap, where needed to provide location searches, maps and forecasts.
  • Website and email service suppliers that process information on our behalf where necessary to operate or support the service.
  • Professional advisers, regulators, courts or public authorities where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.

5. International transfers

Some providers may process personal information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we use providers that apply a recognised UK adequacy arrangement or appropriate contractual and organisational safeguards designed to protect the information. You may contact us for further information about the safeguards relevant to your information.

6. Cookies, analytics and advertising measurement

We use necessary cookies and similar technologies for login, security, subscriptions, payments and remembering your consent choices. Non-essential technologies are controlled through our consent banner. If you choose Statistics, Google Tag Manager loads and Google Analytics 4 records page views and the limited business events described above so we can understand how WeatherDuck is used. If you also choose Marketing, Google Ads conversion tracking may measure whether a Google ad led to actions such as sign-up, checkout or purchase. Google may receive an IP address as part of the ordinary network request, browser and device information, approximate location, pseudonymous cookie or click identifiers, cleaned page information, approved campaign parameters and the event information described above. We do not currently use Google Ads remarketing or personalised advertising. Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement are fully blocked until the relevant consent has been given. If you refuse, WeatherDuck sends no analytics or advertising-measurement request through these tools; we do not send cookieless measurement pings after refusal. You can accept, refuse or change your choices at any time through Manage consent in the website footer. Withdrawing consent stops future non-essential measurement on that browser. It does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal or automatically erase information already received by Google. For cookie names, purposes and lifetimes, see our Cookie Policy (UK).

7. How long we keep information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.

  • Account and profile information is normally kept while your account remains active and then only for as long as needed to complete closure or meet legal requirements.
  • Payment, subscription, cancellation, refund and accounting records may be kept for up to six years.
  • Support and contact correspondence is normally kept for up to two years after the matter is resolved.
  • Security and technical logs are normally kept for up to twelve months unless they are needed for an investigation or legal claim.
  • Google Analytics user-level and event-level data is subject to a 14-month retention setting. Standard aggregated reports may remain available for longer.
  • Google Ads conversion and campaign reporting is kept under Google’s applicable conversion-window and reporting-retention rules and while needed to assess campaign performance.
  • Marketing information is kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, subject to keeping a minimal suppression record where necessary.
  • Aggregated or de-identified weather-location information may be retained for service improvement where it no longer identifies an individual.

8. How we protect information

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. These include access controls, encrypted connections, password hashing, security monitoring and trusted payment processors. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

9. Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • request access to your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask us to erase information;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing; and
  • withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal. Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions. To exercise a right, email help@weatherduck.co.uk. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

10. Complaints

Please contact us first if you have concerns so that we can try to resolve them. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: Information Commissioner’s Office Website: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ Telephone: 0303 123 1113
