By using WeatherDuck (weatherduck.co.uk and the WeatherDuck app) you agree to these terms. They are a contract between you and Weather Duck Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14842042, registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX). Please read them, especially section 5 on weather data and safety.
If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use WeatherDuck.
Our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Refund and Cancellation Policy form part of these terms. If you installed the WeatherDuck app from Google Play, Google’s terms also apply to the download.
1. What WeatherDuck is
WeatherDuck is a UK weather site for outdoor activities. It combines public weather data with WeatherDuck’s own scoring and analysis to help you judge whether conditions look good for what you have in mind.
Everything on the site is produced automatically by software from third-party weather model data. No forecaster checks an individual forecast before you see it.
There are two tiers:
- Free: standard forecasts and stargazing tools, the standard WeatherDuck activity score, the public rain-gauge map and rainfall history, the Ground Dryness predictor with a free account, and one active 24-hour cloud inversion email alert.
- Premium (£2.99 a month or £24.99 a year): everything in Free, plus custom score controls and presets, around two days of cloud inversion outlook (often longer), and up to ten cloud inversion email alerts with 24 or 48 hours’ warning.
The pricing page always shows the current features and prices. If it differs from the list above, the pricing page at the time you subscribe applies.
2. Subscriptions and payments
- Premium is billed at the start of each billing period, monthly or annually, through our payment provider.
- Prices include UK VAT where it applies. If we change a price we will give you at least 30 days’ notice before it affects your next renewal.
- Premium renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page. You keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for and will not be charged again.
- You have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of subscribing. By subscribing you ask us to start Premium straight away rather than waiting for those 14 days to end. Our Refund and Cancellation Policy explains exactly what you get back if you cancel within that time.
- If a payment fails, our payment provider will retry it. If it keeps failing, your account drops back to Free until you update your payment details.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure, keeping your email address up to date so we can reach you, and for everything that happens under your account. If you think someone else has used your account, change your password and email us straight away.
You can delete your account at any time from your account page or by emailing us. Deletion is permanent and we cannot recover deleted data.
4. Acceptable use
WeatherDuck is for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not:
- scrape or bulk-collect data from the site or its APIs;
- reverse-engineer the activity scoring, inversion forecasting or other WeatherDuck logic;
- resell, sublicense or redistribute WeatherDuck content without our written permission;
- use automated tools to make excessive requests;
- try to bypass the paywall or gain access to Premium features without paying;
- use the site in any way that breaks the law or harms other users.
If you would like to use WeatherDuck data commercially, for example in a guidebook, app or service, email us and we can talk about a licence.
5. Weather data and safety
Forecasts are not certainties. WeatherDuck gives you our best interpretation of the data available, but:
- forecasts can be wrong, especially beyond 48 hours;
- local conditions in valleys, on summits and near the coast can differ a lot from what the models predict;
- cloud inversions and ground conditions are especially sensitive to small changes in the atmosphere;
- a cloud inversion alert means conditions look favourable. It is not a promise that you will see one;
- data sources can fail or run late, so forecasts may be delayed, incomplete or unavailable.
WeatherDuck is a planning aid, not a safety service. It is not a substitute for official forecasts and warnings from the Met Office, the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) or the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and it is not a substitute for proper trip planning, mountain skills or common sense.
Do not rely on WeatherDuck for decisions where your safety is at stake. If you are planning anything where conditions could be dangerous, such as hill walking, mountaineering, fell running, sea kayaking, paragliding or winter climbing, always:
- check official forecasts and warnings;
- check conditions on the ground before you commit;
- carry the right equipment and have an emergency plan;
- make cautious decisions based on more than one source.
You are responsible for your own decisions and your own safety when you are out.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- WeatherDuck is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied;
- we do not guarantee that the site will be available at all times, free of errors or uninterrupted;
- we are not liable for decisions you make based on WeatherDuck content, or for any loss, injury, damage or inconvenience that arises from using the site;
- our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. For Free users that is £0.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
7. Intellectual property
The WeatherDuck name, logo, site design, scoring and forecasting methods and original content belong to Weather Duck Ltd.
The weather, rainfall, astronomy, map and terrain data behind the forecasts comes from third parties, including Open-Meteo, the Met Office, the Environment Agency, SEPA, Natural Resources Wales, NOAA and OpenStreetMap contributors, and stays subject to their licences. You are welcome to share screenshots and short quotes from the site for personal or editorial use. A credit and a link to weatherduck.co.uk is appreciated. For anything broader, email us first.
8. Ending your access
We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, for example by scraping the site, abusing the API or using a stolen payment method. In serious cases we may report you to the relevant authorities.
If we close your account for a reason that is not a breach, for example because we shut the service down, we will refund any unused part of your subscription pro rata.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant we will let you know by email or a notice on the site, and you can cancel your subscription before it takes effect if you do not agree. Continuing to use WeatherDuck after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
